I have been looking after children since I was 15 when I looked after a 6 month old boy for three years, the family then had another son who I started looking after when he was 6 weeks.
During the summer I worked at a camp in Minnesota, America looking after very privileged children aged 7-17 and was in charge of the dance programme. Through being the head of the dance activity I had to create interesting and fun ways to help and entertain the kids. This encouraged my love for being organised and thinking of creative and fun ways to do tasks.
Whilst at school I also helped with paired reading and peer mentoring with younger children to help them settle in and receive additional support that is needed. Whilst doing this I also worked at Muirfield Riding Therapy for four years. This entailed helping severely disabled children helping them get therapy through horse riding. I specifically was a key worker for 3 children who I helped get physio and one of the boys is now able to walk with the help of a walker. Also during the summers at school I helped at the East Lothian Playscheme as a volunteer for disabled children. This playscheme meant that parents were able to have some time off or go to work whilst ensuring their children were getting care.
Due to my experience I have a DBS check and Disclosure Scotland as well as references.
Currently I am a Masters student, studying Public Relations so that takes up 2 days (Tuesday and March i'm self study. I feel this has made me mature because, despite being 21, I have a great deal of responsibility and have to have excellent time management. Due to studying I have flexibility in when I can work.
Personally, I love being active, exploring new places and having fun. My main hobbies are dancing and horse riding, having done them for 19 and 18 years respectively. However I have also done a lot of other sports and activities, such as arts and crafts for 4 years after school on a Friday.
I believe that children really benefit from being active and exploring new hobbies and talents, however I also believe that sometimes downtime is necessary and we can work out a plan on how to structure the day.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you and your family!
