My name is Katy and I'm a student at Northumbria University, currently undergoing a sociology degree. The degree focuses primarily around relationships between people and how they get on, therefore working around children is hugely beneficial to me.
Before going to university, I worked for a term in a prep school in Oxford as a gap student. This included teaching sport, DT and (early) English and Maths. It also included supervising certain activities and providing as much entertainment as possible.
Last summer, I nannied for three boys, ages 3, 6 and 9 for three full days a week.
This summer, I've been working full time at a summer camp. My job as an activity instructor has been to ensure that an action-packed and exciting day of activities has been planned and to ensure that these activities are carried out with constant enthuaism.
During my final year at college (2015) I volunteered in a home for children with disabilities aged 4-16 years, weekly for the entire year. I shadowed regular workers for the first few weeks to learn how to care for the children and how to manage challenging situations. After training, I was able to engage with the children on a much more personal level, providing personal care and activities such as sports and games.
My outgoing and enthusiastic personailty has always aided me in allowing children to feel as comfortable as possible.
