My desire to work with children and young people has been enhanced due to the vast range of experience I have gained during my professional practice training whilst studying the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (the Early Years Educator). I have been privileged to attend St Marys School for my professional practice training and have gained a wealth of experience by working in the nursery and supporting the children and staff in day to routines. Throughout my experience, I have worked conscientiously and developed competence in my understanding of the foundation stage as well the value of observation and play and especially in planning in conjunction with the unique child. I have also enjoyed working in the reception class at St Mary’s school and clearly, understand the progress that children make in such a short time and in ways such children start to become independent learners. I have also come to realise how important it is to stand back and to allow the children to make choices, to problem solve, and to become strong capable learners.
I have also experienced working with children who are learning English as an additional language. When working with such children I realise the importance in adapting the method of communication to ensure such children’s needs are valued and considered with equality. These experiences enhanced my knowledge in the value of using alternative forms of communication such as Makaton and the picture exchange communication systems.
I have participated in many training courses such as food hygiene training; this has enabled me to prepare children’s snacks and meal’s in the correct way during my attendance in placements proactively supporting the team. In addition, I have attended training in safeguarding children and young people reinforcing my awareness of child protection procedures. Another training session which enhanced my knowledge of outdoor learning was Forest schools this enlightened me with regard the benefits in offering challenging experiences to children even at a young age. Furthermore, I have undertaken training in planning around the early year’s foundation stage this has enabled me to plan with confidence, focusing on children’s interests and embedding learning and development opportunities within children’s play.
I believe I am a good communicator with children and adults alike, equally, I am the good team player with a strong work ethic this is due to the fact that I am patient with others and I always have a friendly approach towards others.
At College, I personally manage my time effectively and always hand in coursework on time. I transfer my theoretical knowledge into my professional practice by implementing various policies and procedures as well as legislation.
Similarly, I transfer my professional practice skills and experiences into my coursework by demonstrating my personal understanding of such practice.
I am a totally reliable, meaning I am always on time with excellent attendance, this shows that I am committed and can be relied upon to support the team of professionals.
Outside of college, I have a part time job, which shows that I am trustworthy committed and can always be relied upon working to my full potential. I am able to prioritise between different demands by self-evaluating which demand is more of a priority, the reason in which I am able to do this is because I am self-motivated this allows me to be able to work without supervision but I am also able to work alongside others just as efficiently.
