Anya, au pair - PE34 Terrington st clement

Hello there, my name is Anya and I cannot even begin to describe how much I enjoy working with children/young people and their families.

I have previous experience working with children in a Year 1 class, as well as a Nursery class - ages ranging from 3-6. I spent a whole academic year at a School and I came to realise that there is nothing else I am supposed to do, other than work with, educate, influence, and make a difference to children's lives.

Whilst at my work placement, I observed children and then decided how I could further their developmental progress - whether this be, physically, emotionally, intellectually or socially. I would do this through fun, stimulating activities, for example: I observed child A at reading time, and noticed that they interrupted when it was child B's turn to read, in general they didn't seem to have the hang of taking turns. So I set up a fun game with a group of children, which involved taking turns - when it was child A's turn, they were interrupted and they got upset. We all discussed how it felt to be interrupted and continued the game, which went really well and I felt as though everyone had learned something.

I feel that I have the perfect balance of being both a friend and an educator to children. I am warm, approachable and friendly, but also firm when necessary. I have the ability to recognise in which areas they are excelling, and where there may be room for improvements, e.g. with fine motor skills, mathematics, social skills etc.

I have a Scottish Higher in Psychology at grade B, as well as the units: Understanding and Supporting Children's Behaviour, Working with Children 5-8 Years and, Teamwork in Care Settings.
