My large family, consisting of many young cousins on both my mother and father’s side, and having a younger brother and sister, has allowed me to take an active role in their development through their childhood. I have had the opportunity to take care of them through babysitting, helping them to read and write, but also grow as a person.
For the past couple of years I’ve been working towards my adult leadership with 2nd Shipley Guides and Brownies. Through training to be a leader, I have taken part in local community events for instance a Remembrance Day parade and gain various skills such as leading a group of 8 to 14 year olds in group activities. The leadership has also helped me gain experience in giving them a balanced and varied programme and help them develop as a person.
Recently I was approached by a leader of my local Beaver Scout unit, who said to me I would be a brilliant role model and leader for the young 4 to 7 year old boys attending Beavers. My roles in Beavers are to run activities, which are simple and fun, but suitable for the age range of the boys, every few weeks.
