My name is Kirsty, I'm 21 years old and I have just finished my third year studying Psychology at Stirling University. I am specialising in child psychology and hope to do a masters in this after I graduate. I am hoping to become an educational and developmental psychologist so that I can help children with special needs or children who have problems in school for whatever reason. I see myself as very friendly and fun-loving but I am also very responsible.
I worked as a camp counsellor in America for 12 weeks last summer and as a general counsellor my main job was childcare. I lived in a cabin with the children and spent 20 hours a day with them, 6 days a week for 12 weeks. My roles included supervising the children at all times, interacting and playing games with them, and ensuring most importantly their safety but also their comfort and happiness, while being a positive role model and facilitating positive social experiences for the children. Throughout pre-camp and 12 weeks of camp, we were always learning about childcare in weekly sessions with child psychologists. I was also American Red Cross First Aid certified and underwent training in acting in an emergency (administering epi-pens, etc.)
I am also British Red Cross Certified in paediatric first aid, and have just finished my level 3 volunteer training at the children's charity Barnardo's where I will be beginning as a befriender for the children that use their service.
