Presentation

I am a 21 year old graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University and a Dance Artist who adores children and loves to work with them. In September 2018, I plan to comence my Master's to become a Dance Movement Therapist.

At the age of 15, I became a student teacher at my dance school, assisting the teacher in preparing children from one and a half and two years old up to 15 year old, for their exams and stage performances. Once I was confident, at 17/18years old, I was asked to leading a workshop for the Brownies Dance Badge and I also started leading some of the dance classes on my own, which I carried on through college, until I went to university at 18yo.

Whilst at university, I was trained in the safeguarding of young children and vulnerable adults, having a full CRB Check completed in my 3rd year. This unit also covered creating activities for children, based on their age and interests. I got to try these new skills when I worked for the university, leading workshops and becoming a children's entertainer (actor/performer), which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I wish to carry on interacting and working with children as it brings me joy and also experience for when I have my own children.

Jazzanna can provide references from recent employers

Calum D.

I have employed Jazzanna on several occasions, as a performer and workshop leader. I would like to particularly focus on a project where Jazzanna delivered a series of dance workshops for me, aimed at a range of younger school children over the course of a month. To give a reference for Jazzanna, I feel I must explain her experience on this project. Upon starting Jazzanna had a strong knowledge of dance, but was looking to develop her experience running workshops and particularly build her confidence in working with young people and children. She was overseen by myself, with input and support from two other people working on the project. All three of us have years of experience in delivering workshops and working with young people. Jazzanna's very first workshop was extremely difficult. She had a group who were uncooperative, disruptive and challenging. The group's teacher who was present gave very little to no support. After the workshop she was a little disheartened. I have known other students to be in similar situations and simply give up and walk away, and I would not have blamed her if she had. What Jazzanna did instead was review and discuss everything that had happenned and resolved to learn from it and put into practice what she had learned. Her next workshop with a different group a week later was, if possible, more challenging. They were disruptive, rude, unresponsive, distracted and everything that you fear having to deal with as a workshop leader. Jazzan put what she had learned into practice and made it through the workshop successfully, managing to keep control of the situation. One of the teachers present - a veteran teacher we know well - told us that if she was in Jazzanna's position and had tried to deliver a workshop to that group, she would have given up and not come back. Jazzanna did not give up, and she did go back. At the end of this series of workshops, she brought the group to a final showcase day. What I saw from that group was respect and fondness. Jazzanna managed them easily, keeping them entertained while being in charge the entire day. I have never known a workshop leader to undergo such an incredible transformation in skill and confidence in such a short space of time, and this was achieved because Jazzanna cares deeply about delivering quality work. She took on board every opportunity to learn and review her professional practice. She adapts and learns faster than any student I've had work for me and was liked universally amongst her pupils. Jazzanna is responsible, caring, kind and committed to continued learning. She has faced extremely challenging groups and risen to meet the challenge. As a workshop leader and performer I have seen her interact with children up close and she always demonstrates kindness and compassion, really listening to what she is being told. I recommend Jazzanna because she cares deeply. She will work harder than any other applicant to meet expectations, and if she is ever caught out or makes a mistake, she will learn from it and never make it again. She is reliable, in any situation. Lastly, I recomend her for this role specificlally, because she is kind, and caring and I know no one who doesn't like her.
