My name is Adriana and recently I moved in UK because I was accepted to a MA Special Education Needs program at Reading University. I do not have job experience but I have a lot of knowledge gained by many volunteer hours. First of all, I finished this year a bachelor degree in Romania in Special Education Needs with 10, which is the maximum grade in Romanian scale. This is an important thing because it demonstrates that I am a working-hard student, passioned by working with children and with people in generally.
During the Special Education Needs faculty I studied modules such as Psychology of Education, The psychology development in context of disability, Pedagogy, Social assistance for people with disabilities, Psychopedagogy of people with intellectual impairments, of emotional and behavioral disorders, of people with visual impairments, with hearing impairments, with motor impairments, Speech therapy, Braille system, Sign language and Clinical Psychology. But I did not limit myself to the curricula. I volunteered in the Psychology Students’ Association in their Educational Department from 2015 until 2016 and in 2016 I became one of the 9 members of the board of decision having in direct supervision 30 students. I improved my organizing and management skills during events initiated by us: the Freshers’ Week, Edublitz, CISP – the International Conference of Students in Psychology and Psycho-Talk. Psycho-Talk was thought on the model of TedTalks and was something developed during my PSA engagement, with a huge success to the public, an event that lasts until nowadays. I also was elected to represent my faculty in the Students’ Council defending students’ rights and putting on the table the issues that were avoided by the top management of the university. I have a pro-justice attitude, I speak my mind when I find injustice is done, for which reason I was elected to be the voice of my fellow students in the Students’ Council from Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences. The same fighting for the right to prevail attitude made the PSA and the Students’ Council support me in being elected in ANOSR.
The National Alliance of Students’ Organizations (ANOSR) is the ultimate students’ mechanism invited at the highest-level meetings, in Parliament also. The work at ANOSR meant huge documentation work and research from my part, and responsibility. I was part of the Educational Committee and kept an intense work rhythm between 2016 and 2017. I gave up the function as I was involved in too many activities, still my aim was always to score high grades in the academic setting.
After ANOSR, I did not give up volunteering, I am still involved in PSA and Students’ Council, and I did a meaningful voluntary work at CATA - the Centre of Assistance in Access Technologies for people with disabilities. My concrete contribution was transferring into Braille all the materials and books that a student needs in his/her studies by scanning and printing.
As I said, I do not have real job experience but actually I worked during the University every year with children with disabilities and I am a determined person and I am interested about your job, because sincerely, I think it could be a great start for me in my career.
Kind regards,
Adriana
