I am a bubbly, cheerful professional looking to provide high quality childcare for the right family. I am passionate about outdoor learning and enjoy building secure, warm, respectful relationships with all the children I look after (and their families of course!) I believe in starting healthy habits early and am very keen to help you raise your little ones as well rounded, good hearted people who make positive contributions wherever they go.
I feel that looking after children in their own home gives me the opportunity to focus purely on their care and educational needs in a familiar and cosy environment. I would be pleased to keep a thorough learning and care journal for you and plan child centred, developmentally appropriate activities based on their interests. I am also happy to do any child related cooking and cleaning for you and also feel that getting out to groups is important for children's social development.
I have a BA (HONS) in Education Studies from the University of the West of England and (whilst working full time in a nursery) gained my post graduate Early Years Professional qualification from Bath Spa University. This means I am qualified and responsible for setting and maintaining standards of best practice in professional childcare from birth to five, with years of teaching placement experience from 5 to 11.
My degree specialised in teaching English and I have experience with several reading systems including the synthetic phonics programme 'Jolly phonics' and the 'toe-by'toe' programme used with older learners who have struggled with reading in the past. I am also familiar with the letters and sounds framework which aims to help children develop the foundation skills needed for reading and writing such as sound discrimination and fine motor skills. I would be very well suited to help your child with their homework!
My post graduate qualification explored the underpinning knowledge of early years child development including how this relates to everyday practice. I believe you have to have a thorough knowledge of how children grow and learn in order to support them properly.
In my previous roles I worked in all age ranges from babies and toddlers to preschool and after school. I regularly had sole charge of up to 3 babies, 4 toddlers or 8 pre schoolers. Part of my job was to observe the staff working with the children and provide training and guidance for improved practice.
I have managerial experience and am able to work in high pressure situations.I also have 6 years of military service, giving me a fairly unique perspective on the challenges facing military families.
In my spare time I like reading historical novels, horse riding, baking and walking my dog all over the beautiful countryside we are lucky to enjoy as Wiltshire residents.
Over all I am a hard working, kind and creative person who just loves looking after children. I am continually reading about areas of childcare that interest me and booking myself on courses.
I am looking for part time work (around 30 hours per week) as a live out nanny and would be prepared to negotiate for occasional evening baby-sitting. Anything around the 22-30 hours per week range would mean I would only need to work for one family and this would give me a great amount of flexibility regarding which days I could work for you.
I currently have an ongoing Monday morning appointment (11am - 12) but this is only for 3 months. As of September I would also be available Monday mornings.
