I am currently a 20 year old student studying Applied Psychology at the University of Cumbria and I am looking for some part time work while I am home over the summer holidays. I am also keen to get some experience looking after children as I am hoping for a career in childcare in the future.
I have had some experience in the past working/looking after children, but you can never have too much!!
I have done 2 weeks work experience with years 3 and 4 during secondary school at a local primary school and I loved it. I also spent some time volunteering during college at another primary school where my Mother is a teacher in the year 2 class.
When I went onto University I started volunteering at an after school club for children in the area at the local community center. The children ranged from ages 5 to 16. Volunteering there involved doing things like making things to sell on an arts and crafts stall and cooking for bake sales, this was to raise some money to take the children on trips out, for example, i was one of the volunteers who took the children to Newcastle Life center on a trip ice skating. This was not only a brilliant experience but it was so much fun!
I have also spent a lot of time looking after siblings while my parents have been at work, my younger brother has a learning disability and my older sister has bipolar disorder and so it may not have been typical babysitting experience it has taught me some very important skills, such as patience and the ability to deal with situations which are very challenging.
