Maryam, babysitting - BB1 Blackburn

Hi there. My name is Maryam and I am a 17 year old A-level student. I have a large family and live with my parents and 5 siblings and I know help is always needed around the house! I am looking to offer occasional and emergency babysitting care to families in my area. I feel I am caring and can understand and fulfil the needs of children because as the eldest I have helped look after my younger siblings. I have a 15 year old brother who has Cohen syndrome which is a genetic disorder that affects brain development and has a severe impact on speech, understanding and basic cognitive ability. Helping to care for my brother has broadened my patience and I think if I can look after him, normal children like the rest of my siblings wouldn't be as difficult to look after. This shows me that as a babysitter I need to be humble to interact with children and not make them feel inferior. I can change nappies, make milk and baby food, cook, engage with children, play games, get them cleaned up and put them into bed and even help with homework. I am mature and sensible and have often been left alone to look after my siblings and my parents have taught me the basics of being alone such as what to do in an emergency. I can fluently speak English.
