Hi, my name is Julie , I`m a 26 year old 2nd year animation student at UCA Farnham where I also live. I have worked as a nursery assistant in Norway for about 2 years combined, and have a good deal of experience with children from 1 - 6 years old. As a babysitter, children warm up to me quickly, and they seem to feel both safe and happy in my company. When I take care of a child, I make sure that I talk to them a lot, and let them get to know me properly before I decide how to best mind them. I'm a caring and calm babysitter, who never gets angry. Rather, I set clear boundaries and uphold them consistently. I think it's very fun to be with kids and I enjoy doing creative projects and play imagination games etc. If a parent feels comfortable with it, I'm also used to taking kids out on hikes or walks in the park etc. I don't have a car so it's preferable if you don't live further than an hours walk from where I live.
I've worked for three different nurseries in Norway. The fairytale bridge Steiner nursery (Eventyrbrua Steinerbarnehage). They have a special pedagogy that focuses on letting a child play and use their imagination as the main tool for learning. In practice, this means lots of creative and artistic projects, lots of playing make-believe, and lots of hikes and trips so that the children can have a wide variety of experiences.
I later worked for a temp agency that would send me on short assignments. I worked in approximately 5 different nurseries on assignments lasting between 5 days - 1 month. I, therefore, have a wide range of experience working with both younger and older kids in nurseries with very different childcare styles.
The last nursery I worked at was Akerbakken Nursery, where I stayed for a year before moving to England to study. I mainly worked as a childcare assistant for a group of 9 different 1 to 3-year-olds. Under management guidance, I was given a lot of responsibility. I was allowed to initiate different pedagogy tactics in our group, organize and lead different creative projects and trips. I also, on several occasions had the responsibility of room/group leader.
Occasional babysitting | $7.50 per hour |
Partial / after-school care | $7.40 per hour |
A minimum of 7 pounds an hour is reasonable I think.
