Hi my name is Carmen and I am due to start studying for a PGCE in September as I would like to be a primary school teacher. I love working with children and first became interested in teaching because of my youngest brother Isaac who is 6 years old. I was 18 when he was born so looked after him a lot when he was younger. On deciding I wanted to teach I started doing a lot of volunteering in various schools and with my local girl guide group. I learnt a lot about how to interact with children and cater to their various needs. I learnt the most though during my time at Queen's College Nursery in Cambridge where I started working in January 2015. I worked with the younger ones, my youngest being 6 months and the oldest 2 years. I have discovered that it is important to have trust with not only the child in your care but the parents as it takes a lot of trust to leave your child with someone that they may not know very well so of course a trial run is to be expected.
I know that it is important to smile, be happy, patient and to listen to the children as much as you would any adult. with children I have worked with previously we would often go to the park and read lots of stories. With the older children between 3-6 we would play board games such as snakes and ladders and often make up games to play indoors or outdoors. I also try and incorporate learning simple maths skills such as addition in their normal everyday activities. If you are interested then feel free to contact me at any time I would be happy to have a chat and answer any questions you may have.
I look forward to speaking with anyone that may be interested and thank you for taking the time to look a my profile.
Best wishes
Carmen
