I live in Eastbourne and I have just finished school, I have taken a wide range for my GCSE’s and my predicted grades include A* for Chemistry and Physics, A+ for French, A for Biology, Geography and History, B+ for Product Design and 7 for English Language and Literature and Mathematics.
I am a conscientious student who cares about my education and takes school seriously. I always try my best in lessons while also being helpful towards the teachers. I have 100% attendance and I have had no after school detentions in my years at Willingdon. I also strive to improve my grades and I am always focused, concentrated and motivated.
I am also a Year 11 Prefect and I undertake duties throughout the week including supervising the Year 7 area and helping out in the library. I also chair the Year 7 Council Meetings which consist of discussing the issues around the school.
I take part in activities outside of school. I am part of the Girlguiding organisation where I have been a Brownie, a Guide, now a Ranger and also a Young Leader which means that I have been attending the meetings every week since I was 8 years old. There have been many significant events which I have been involved in, including the 100 year centenary of Girlguiding in 2010 in which we celebrated with camps and day trips to Blacklands Farm which I attended and enjoyed immensely. Since then, I have taken part in the Olave International Camp at Blacklands Farm where our sub camp hosted Malta. When I was a Guide, I achieved the highest award possible, the Baden Powell Award. I had to complete 10 challenges including earning badges including World Issues and Culture. I led an Italian themed evening for the Guides with activities, games and food and a 'Frozen' themed party for the Rainbows. It was very challenging completing the tasks as well an overnight adventure in order to receive my award. As a Ranger, I have been Treasurer for a year and I have started to complete my Young Leader Qualification which means that I can lead one of the groups. At the moment, I help at my local Brownie group, 42nd Eastbourne, and I have started to develop leadership skills there by leading some activities and evenings.
In addition to this, I took part in Young Enterprise last year. I entered this to improve my confidence and to gain some experience of whether business could be a possible career choice. In the Company, I was the Operations Director which meant that I oversaw and contributed ideas to the group about possible products and ensured that jobs were fulfilled. I was also the person who achieved the highest sales to customers. This meant that I had to engage the customers with the products and our company Ensemble as they walked past. We made over £130 in the year. I had to keep the customers engaged for as long as possible because the few seconds that I had with the customer could be the difference between winning and losing the sale. At the end of the year we delivered a presentation, there was a lot to say in a short space of time but my team and I delivered a presentation that was of a high standard and we won the Best Finals Stall Award and the Runner Up Best Company for the whole of Eastbourne as well as in February winning the Best Customer Service Award. As a personal achievement, I was also nominated by my peers and teachers involved in Young Enterprise for the Young Achiever of the Year Award which I won. This meant that I had to have an interview with two of the board members about what I have achieved in Young Enterprise. This interview lasted 25 minutes and has helped me to prepare for future interviews and a week later at the finals it was announced that I had won the Young Achiever of the Year Award for Eastbourne and Wealden 2015-16. My involvement with YE has vastly improved my confidence in speaking to both individuals and groups. This, of course, has motivated me to sell even more and at the Year 10 Parent’s Evening; I tried to sell to all of the teachers and parents with much success and by the end of the evening I managed to sell out of most of the stock!
In July 2015, I completed a week of work experience at the WHSmith Eastbourne store. I learnt a lot of useful skills including time management, following detailed instructions and undertaking work duties such as customer services.
I consider myself to be an ambitious student; keen to learn; who thrives on challenges. My achievements so far show I am dedicated to my education and I am looking forward to my further studies at college.
