The career of education and childcare is something that has always been interested me. I am aware that working with children is a highly demanding and challenging job. However, I like a challenge and it is something that I can deal with – I am incredibly good at working through tough times. This is why I think I would work well in this sector of society. I know that this type of career is also extremely rewarding, which is one of the things that draws me to it. I am very interested in the course, as it will allow me to gain knowledge, understanding and practice to set me up for working in a childcare setting. I want to learn more about the learning and development in children.
I have a reasonable amount of experience working with children – I was selected to be part of the buddying scheme at my school: were I was paired with three first year pupils going through the primary to high school transition. This has enhanced my understanding of the worries and problems that children face. Therefore my skills of how to deal with these problems have advanced. I also aided the paired reading programme; during this I worked closely with a 1st year who struggled with reading. I assisted her to improve her reading skills and understand what she was reading better. In addition, I also mentored an English class weekly, in which I assisted the teacher. This gave me an excellent insight into what it is actually like to teach. Furthermore, I volunteer to supervise an I.T club during lunchtimes. I developed various different skills through this, such as discipline. Additionally, I was chosen to be a Prefect. Through this I took part in multiple school events – I was a group leader at the sponsored walk. Here I was given the responsibility of being in charge of a group of younger pupils. Also, I took part in The Young Apprentice programme. This experience helped me develop leadership skills, along with team working qualities.
I am a good team player, as well as an independent worker. I am very organised and punctual – always meeting deadlines on time. Also, I have great determination to get things done and achieve my goals. Additionally, I am a good listener, along with being an imaginative person. I love helping others and get on really well with children. I am a focused and engaged worker that always gives everything my all. In addition, I am patient and mature.
