Hi! I am an enthusiastic and lively student at the University of Aberdeen and I study Primary Education with Gaelic. As I am at university during the week days I would be looking for babysitting opportunities at the weekend or evenings in Aberdeen. I am the eldest of my family with two younger sisters and one younger brother so I have always been a role model. I am very close with them all and despite living apart from them now I am always on hand to give advice or cheer them up. I have also had plenty of experience working with children.
I have had a job at a playgroup for two summers where I helped create a a fun and safe environment for the children to play in. I read storys, set up toys/games and accompanied them on outdoor trips. I also helped prepare healthy snacks and clean the playgroup.
I love gymnastics and have been doing it for as long as I can remember and when I was 15 I started volunteering with the younger classes. When I was 16 I gained my level one coaching qualification alongside my disclosure and first aid. I loved coaching the younger classes and took grade pride in helping the children learn new skills, grow in confidence and have fun. As well as coaching I also took charge in choreographing and teaching routines for groups of about 30 children. We then went on to preform them in shows. This highlights my creativity and confidence.
As well as gymnastics I also love to dance and every autumn season for 4 years I would go round local primary schools and teach them dance routines that I had choreographed and the children absolutely loved it. I then chose fun costumes and did their make-up and hair for them for them to preform their dance in front of their families, friends and other local primary schools.
Most recently, I was accepted onto the Camp America programme where I then went on to work as a gymnastics specialist at a summer camp in Pennsylvania. I lived in a bunk with 13 13yr olds and I helped encourage them to get up in the morning and clean their areas. I also sat with them at meals and enforced lights out at bed time. Although they could be challenging at times I developed a close bond with my girls and it never seemed like work to me to be spending time with them. During the day I planned and conducted gymnastics lessons for children from ages 6 to 16. I made the lessons fun and adaptable and I loved working with different age groups of children. Despite it being completely physically and mentally exhausting at times I was always able to remain positive and enthusiastic and I loved the whole experience!
