Being a child carer is important for me because each experience I get helps me realise how working with children in the future is something I would like to pursue as a career. I am in my second year of college, studying at Colchester Sixth Form of which I currently take dance, psychology and English language. After college I plan to go to university in order to complete a social work degree.
I previously did my work experience in a nursery where I worked with children 1-5 years old. I have also previously babysat numerous children including family members and family friends. I am a great child carer as stay as I am able to stay coolheaded when a child is upset or injured, and have the patience to negotiate arguments over toys and games. Being young and energetic also allows me to create a fun bond with the children in my care and it helps them to feel confident around me. Although being fun is important when entertaining the children, in order to show who is in charge I have various techniques which include being gentle and kind when a child is in the wrong, especially if specific instructions are given by the parent that need to be followed.
I can be fun, authoritative and tenacious if needed. My aim is to become someone the child can look up to and respect at anytime. Although college is an issue, I am able to work evenings flexibly and around any holiday period time.
