Hello!
My name is Lauren, I'm 19 and have lived in East Kilbride my whole life. I currently am a third year student at the University of Strathclyde studying Psychology. Throughout high school I was a high achiever - I left school in 2015 with 5 highers, an advanced higher and the Young Composer of the Year Award. My subjects at higher level included English (which was one of my strengths), Business, Geography, History and Music. I love music and being creative and play the flute (since age 9) and guitar (self taught). I also love singing! I have a National 5 maths qualification at level C so could only help primary level children with this subject. (maths was not my strong subject, nor was science). After university I intend to take a Post Graduate course on education so that I can become a primary teacher.
I was a member of the Westwood Guides since the age of 5 till I was 18 and have previously helped out the leaders with the Rainbows (ages 5-7) and my mother's previous Beaver Scouts group. This involved making up games with the children, assisting the leaders with day trips (such as Blair Drummond), helping the children with their badge work and creating fun activities for them to do. Since beginning uni and starting my part time job at Next I could unfortunately no longer keep up my voluntary position as a helper with the Guides or Beavers.
I am the eldest of 5 and have three brothers and one sister. The three boys are 16, 12 and 5 and my little sister has just turned 3. Throughout my life I have frequently helped my parents with all the children and with the two younger ones especially I have looked after them while my parents have went to work and occasionally on weekends if they want to go to dinner or the bingo. I have always loved being a big sister to them all and adore my siblings to bits! I feel very grateful to have such a wide age range of siblings as I can watch films and hang out with my older brother or take my little sister to the park or help my little brother build Lego houses or even play Xbox with the 12 year old! With the two little ones we love painting, watching Disney films (I'm a huge Disney fan), doing jigsaws or going to the park. Although most children have ipads now (all my siblings do) I feel it's really important for them to spend some time being creative and building up their skills through fun activities that don't involve electronics!
I would be happy to babysit on occasion (a couple times a week would be great) as I have university and my job at Next during the week so I am free weekends and would be more than happy to do days or nights.
As for my childcarer qualities I can only speak of my experience with my siblings and the Rainbows and Beavers, but I believe I am a nurturing, friendly and fun individual who gets on great with children of all ages. I would love to build up experience with babysitting children of all ages and walks of life in order to help with my goal of being a teacher!
I would also like to note that I have a car so getting to and from locations would be no issue.
