My name is Danielle and I'm 20 years old. I have very recently returned from South Africa, where I lived for a year volunteering in a home for the disabled (mainly cerebral palsy) aged 3-31. I also often care for my 6 month old Goddaughter. Whilst I was in South Africa I learned a lot from the home, the physiotherapists, occupational and speech therapists and used these skills whilst I had the children on a one to one level in the classroom. I feel I am more suited to caring for younger children, as although some of the kids I looked after were adults they had mental ages of babies, so I am pretty clued up on how to stimulate and play with them. However I am also confident in caring for older children, there were about 5/6 in the home who were more physically disabled than mentally, and so we had to change our teaching methods and games to suit them, for example doing fun science experiments like papier mache volcanoes and playing games outside (my favourite was the easter egg hunt!)
