Hello all,
I am currently studying Health at university and plan to move onto a masters degree in an early years development course, looking at ages between 0 to 18 years. I am passionate about childcare and enjoy bringing a combination of my artist background (qualifications in Fine Art and Photography) and the intellect I have learnt in past and current courses to provide holistic, age appropriate care for children and teenagers.
As well as the usual cooking/feeding, helping with homework, changing and bathing and household tasks if and when needed; I often arrange activities that can help to enhance the overall development of the child. For example: sensory play, not only is this fun but also teaches independence. For older children outdoor games and mind challengers might be more appropriate. Different examples of these activities are; flavoured and coloured jelly or ice play, music 'therapy' where there is open discussion about how it makes them feel then making instruments to re-create these feelings (rice shakers, maracas or kazoos!), challenging riddles, cats cradle, freeze dance or mega hide and seek.
I have volunteered at nurseries, nursing homes, infant and primary schools and also had placements within my courses at these places as well as Church events, charity conventions and event days within my community (festivals/carnivals). I have also looked after younger close family members and have experience with learning disabilities and physical disabilities, especially people affected by autism.
