For the past 4 years I have worked as a youth worker in Branchton Community Centre. I have recently been promoted, becoming the senior youth worker. I work with children and young people aged between 5-18 years, with many having additional support needs. I plan fun filled activities for the the children to take part in, I do risk assessments in all areas to ensure there is no danger. Through this I have become confident in my abilities to work with children and I have become someone the children come to when they need help or advice. I am aware of the children's needs and how different aspects of the children's behaviour should be handled. I have also took part in courses through enterprise childcare to help me understand more about children with autism and also child protection. I have also gained experience of ability to work on my own with the children or as part of a team. This has helped me become a better worker as I have formed bonds with the children allowing me to set up activities based on what the children are intreasted in. We also offer a range of play-schemes, which I have helped organise, keeping the children busy during school holidays. Outside of work I also take care of family members, babies and children which gives more experience. I am very interested in working with children and young people and find it very enjoyable, I am hoping to get the chance to help and provide activities for more children using my skills and knowledge from previous experiences.
