I am a registered paediatric nurse, looking for a break from the clinical and emotional workload for a while. I hope to develop my child care skills and further develop my knowledge of the well child. I have worked in the health and social care field for a number of years. Three years of paediatric nurse training and near 4 years at a children's hospital. I have worked under extreme levels of stress on the paediatric haemotology and oncology ward but have gained vast amounts of knowledge and child care skills. I believe I have a lot to offer. I am friendly, supportive, caring, competent, consistent, punctual, hardworking and dedicated. I have excellent time management skills and a very good rapport with children and young people. I have enjoyed my time in the medical sector but am looking for a change to gain new skills and abilities.
For the last 8 months I have been in a full time nanny role in Cheltenham with a lovely family with sole responsibility of care for a 3 and 6 year old.
I have loved my time with this family and have learnt a great deal about nannying and childcare. The only reason I am leaving this job is due to the fact my employer has recently had a third child and will be on maternity leave for a year, thus unable to carry on funding my role. I am relocating to Hereford with my partner who is a GP. I am looking for a full time position with a lovely family. I am excited about new challenges and experiences in this area.
Key achievements :
*Completing 3 separate university accredited courses post graduation whilst working full time. These courses enabled me to gain further knowledge and widened my repertoire of skills. Also they enabled me to progress further in my career.
* I have worked very closely with a young teenager who had severe learning difficulties/behavioural issues aswell as being clinically unwell. I was part of a small core team of named nurses. I worked well with her and her family providing support, information and care at the highest level. This close level or care and support enabled the child to settle in well and comply with her treatment.
* I have had lovely letters from parents/carers of children and young people stating how impressed they have been with my level of care, dedication, knowledge and support.
* I have worked in many challenging situations with distressed non complaint children and have been able to help them work through the issues to the best of my ability. For example a child repeatedly refusing medication, a young person refusing to eat or just helping a child who is upset to feel better.
Qualifications and training:
Mentors And assessors course (university accredited)
Supportive care module (university accredited)
Cytotoxic care course (chemotherapy) ( university accredited)
*University- DipHE in Nursing child branch
*A2 and As levels in Health and Social care, English literature, History and Psychology.
GCSE 12 Grades A-D English B -Maths -C and Seperate Sciences- B.
*Yearly paediatric basic life support updates last completed April 2014.
Interests:
I have a keen interest in child development and like to keep myself updated with any new information on this. I love the outdoors I enjoy walking, cycling, taking my family dogs out for walks/adventures. I love to read and especially love reading to and with children. I like sports and play tennis when I can. I enjoy horse riding though I wouldn't say I was an experienced rider. Cooking is another one of my passions. A healthy balanced lifestyle is important to me. I enjoy working with children/young people and their families.
Other information -
As stated above I am a registered children's nurse but am looking for some time away from working with terminally ill children and the emotional upset and distress this causes long term. I wish to offer my services to the child care service in the mean while.
I believe it's important to state that growing up myself and my two younger siblings had nannies and Au pairs. Both parents worked full time in the police service so worked varying shifts, thus I am aware of differing family needs and the need of flexibility with child care. My experiences have been varied but this has been to my advantage. At school I did work experience at a local nursery, through my training I worked at various placements including hospitals, nurseries, special schools, health visiting teams and midwives. These placements have shown me the differing needs and requirements of families/carers and children.
I look forward to a new nanny/child care role and hope I can be somebody's Mary poppins! Just without the spoonfuls of sugar :)
