Many years ago I undertook and passed a preliminary residential care course with the intention of a career in childcare of some form. This involved the theory of childcare and placements in nurseries, schools and residential care homes for children. It was a generic course which also involved studying care of the elderly and other vulnerable groups such as those affected by learning disabilities and mental ill health. On completion of the course I was offered and accepted a position working with people with a mental health issue and/ or a learning disability which is where my career developed.
Throughout my life I have been very involved in looking after family and friends’ children and gained much enjoyment from this. I would be very interested in part time work, in whatever capacity the client required.
I would very much enjoy returning to my original intention of working with children and feel my life experience and skills learnt in my working roles would be transferable.
