My name is Rebecca. I am a 24 year old female, living in Lincoln. I live with my partner and my parents. I am a vehicle owner therefore extremely flexible and reliable. I enjoy taking my dogs for long walks, being with family and reading.
I believe my kind nature and patience serve me well when working with children. My key group from previous employment have been children less confident and in more need of positive encouragement. My proudest moments have been when a child has accomplished something due to my patience, perseverance and kind nature. I am creative, imaginative and fun loving which I believe are also key when caring for children.
Two years ago I moved to Norwich after completing my university degree in Early Childhood Studies, due to my partner relocating. I worked for two years in a beautiful Nursery in an orchard. For the first year there, I worked as a Nursery Practitioner in a hard working team. After almost a year, I was promoted to a joint 2nd in charge role in the 2-3 year old room.
My key responsibilities were
- Making sure the room ran smoothly.
- Leading and working alongside other members of the team.
- Greeting in parents and children (sometimes having to comfort a distressed child).
- Planning activities suitable for all individual children and children with additional needs i.e. Autism and speech and language difficulties.
- Carrying out observations of children and linking to the Early Years Foundation Stage (putting these on a online tapestry for parents and families to see throughout the day.)
- Assisting at mealtimes, setting up, preparing food and clearing away after.
- Encouraging and supporting children in hygiene routines e.g. toilet training, nappy changes, individual sleep routines.
- Adhering to policies and procedures within the nursery e.g. Safeguarding and First Aid procedures.
- Undertaking relevant training for the role i.e. Paediatric First Aid and Introduction to Safeguarding.
- Carrying out Two Year Developmental Checks.
- Working alongside other agencies and professionals e.g. Speech and Language Therapist.
- Contributing to team meetings to ensure our team works well together.
Activities I have set up have been individual to a child's development and interests. For example, a child struggling in speech and language and therefore finding difficulties in social situations with the other children in their class, I set up a simple turn taking activity with a small group of the children. The child in question was able to learn and understand how to interact with others, similarly the other children were able to have a positive interactions.
I have most recently moved from Norwich back to my home town of Lincoln, due to my partners new job. I am now looking to further my childcare career and experiences.
