Olivia, childcare - TS17 Thornaby-on-tees

Hello,

My name Is Olivia Lee and i am a recent psychology graduate. I am interested in child care as firstly, throughout my degree developmental psychology was one of my interests also, i have recently went on a cultural exchange programme with camp america where i was placed in a camp and one of my roles was day camp support staff - being in a camp with 250+ children every day for 3 months showed me how fulfilling and rewarding it can be to work with children. The following will hopefully portray my qualities as a carer -
Firstly, through my recent experience at Camp America i took on the role as housekeeping along with day camp support staff in which i had to contribute towards plans for the day camp, catering for a variety of ages, backgrounds - cultural differences (being an international camp), ability and behavioural differences which enhanced my own ability to be diverse and adapt my communication with the children on an individual basis. In addition, the camp i was placed was very strict in terms of health and safety and communication with the children and two weeks prior to camp opening we had to undergo training by specialist child psychologists along with other professionals that taught us a variety of courses including homesickness and safeguarding. Alongside this i have had training which is shown within my CV on safeguarding (adults and children - NHS), first aid, CRP etc. All of which I believe are beneficial when looking after, the most precious being to a parent - their child.
Furthermore, as a support worker i support a young lady who has a chronic physical illness and is unable to engage in everyday life without my assistance and support. Therefore, i must be organised, empathetic and understanding to be able to see life from her point of view and to carry out tasks without her asking. Attending to needs such as, transport, cooking, cleaning, washing etc. is one part of my role. However, i am also a strong mental support which has allowed us to develop a comfortable and trusting relationship whilst maintaining my professionalism always.
I have also had experience within child care within my role at the fun factory, ensuring that children's health and safety was maintained at all time in a variety of ways including physical safety and hygiene of the soft play. I also enjoyed my role when interacting with the children whether it be organising parties or encouraging them to interact positively with one another. Within my personal life, I regularly look after my 6-year-old cousin who I take on active days out along with engaging within her educational activities such as spelling, reading and assemblies.
