Jessi, foreign au pair in Ipswich IP4

Hi, I am Jessi and am 21 years old. I was brought up in both China and England whilst growing up, and can speak fluent English and Intermediate Chinese. I have 5 sisters and my family has often fostered or been to the orphanage to care for the babies and young children, giving me an experience with them.

I have always really enjoyed being with young children, to see them develop and grow through their surroundings, family and play. They are all unique and special in their own ways.

Being surrounded by young children my whole life has given me experience and an understanding for them. Since I was young, I have loved to help my mother change, feed or play with fostered and adopted babies. For a couple of years, I have been caring for my two younger siblings, now aged 8 and 4, while my mother was working. I also helped homeschool my younger sister, including teaching her Braille, piano, maths and science.

My academic qualifications are 7 IGCSE passes and equivalent, including Maths and English, an AS, a level 3 in Child Development and a NVQ level 3 in Child Development Diploma. I have recently passed my Safeguarding Course and am looking into starting my Food Hygiene and First Aid course.

I am a very caring and gentle, but firm person. Children seem to really like me. I have developed patience and skills in communicating with them through my experience of working with both disabled and regular needs children. At the special needs centre, my tasks often involved encouraging children to sit quietly, helping them with their work and helping a severely disabled 9 yr old girl to do her special exercises.

I have also taught a number of children to speak English while in China.

I have worked in a couple of nurseries, working mainly with children ages 2-4 years old for a couple of years. Currently I have 8 Key Children whom I am in charge of planning weekly activities, writing reports on their development, and teaching them the different areas of development through games and activities. I use a variety of activities and materials to implement learning, also teaching through outside play and indoor games.
