Vanessa, foreign au pair in Luton

I am Vanessa, i am 22 years old and i am currently studying Law at the University of Bedfordshire in Luton. I am a friendly and outgoing character, i can appear shy at first but i very quickly become comfortable and i find myself a lot more confident around children than i do sometimes around others my own age or older.

I have finished university for summer now and i am looking for work throughout the summer with potential part time care when i return to studies.

I have experience looking after children ages from 5-13 i find that children this age respond well to me, i think as i am young they find me relateable and enjoy having that young and fun character and in turn give respect to rules their parents have told me set down. I also have experience with newborn babies, i have a niece (4) and a nephew (3) who i instantly fell in love with and i cared for from a very young age. I loved having the opportunity to be there through these stages and see them learning and growing and continue to develop now.

I am very aware each child is different and needs individual care and attention to their specific needs. My niece benefits from a lot of mental stimulation. she enjoys being read too and taught to read, with her i tend to do arts and crafts work as its both enjoyable and mentally stimulating. My nephew can not sit and focus for long enough for this kind of play, he needs to run around and explore, he enjoys imagination play and i don't shy from this, i will happily be turned into a frog from his magic wand.
Any activities and games that parents wish their child to be doing i will happily learn and get involved.

Although i have not yet experienced caring for a child with learning disabilities or who just needs that extra help and attention. I was a carer for my grandmother for the last 7 years who had Alzheimers and unfortunately passed away last year. This not only made me mature a lot faster than others my age but it allowed me to gain understanding and insight to how to care for people who need that patience and hope.
