Amy, foreign au pair in Paignton TQ3

At the age of five I was lucky enough to be introduced to some amazing children who became my friends and extra family members to us all when my parents took on the role of being respite carers for the disability team. The years passed and from respite carers my parents became foster carers. I have grown up in a house which has been a home to a large number of children all with their own individual needs from the age of twenty-four hours old to a young man who is still living with us aged 16.
Being part of an amazing experience has shown me some eye opening cases of a young persons’ need for love, guidance and help to understand the world. I have witnessed behavioural needs, special educational needs, under developed children and children who have no speech, no emotion and need a helping hand to be allowed to grow and learn.

I enjoy working in a team and learning new skills. I work well under pressure completing tasks I am set at a steady pace. I often look for the next task that needs doing rather then waiting to be told what to do.
I have experienced different types of work all at different levels, working with children, adults, young adults in small and large teams. I have gained knowledge, higher levels of understanding and been able to find out my personal strengths and weaknesses. I enjoy new challenges and work towards excelling myself in the job roll I am in.
