Shannon, foreign au pair in Paisley

I'm Shannon. I'm 21 years old, I live at home with my partner and cat and I have a wide range or hobbies and interests such as reading, playing musical instruments, painting, and cooking. I am a very warm, friendly and fun person. I have always had a motherly vibe and have always wanted to be a mother from a young age.

I worked in a nursery for my work experience in school, then went off to study child development in play in college at 16, worked in a nursery as part of my course and I have been studying childcare independently ever since. I was a young carer from a very young age and I helped raise my two younger brothers from birth. Now that they are all grown up, I have taken on the joint responsibility of a family friends daughter due to health complications with the parents. She is now 3 and we are great friends! I am also the default babysitter for many of my family and friends.

Due to my level of experience with babies and young children, I do tend to focus more on babies and toddlers but I also love looking after older children when required. I am a very artistic person so I tend to love to do artistic and expressive things with the children such as finger painting, drawing, playing instruments, singing and making things. I also encourage 'quiet time' for younger children. This includes things like collecting the blankets and cushions, putting on quiet music or a soothing sea-life documentary etc and reading. This is very beneficial for children who still have nap times or for children who may have a lot of energy all the time and could do with some relaxation!
I love to help the children in learning and love coming up with new educational games. I have studied child psychology in my personal studies and I am often able to make learning time fun through methods I have learned.
I am able to implement fair and suitable rules and I am able to deal with more trying children or children with behavioral problems such as autism and ADHD.
Through my experience of a college course, 2 nursery jobs, helping raise 3 babies in total (and babysitting) and my personal studies, I have gained vast knowledge in childcare and I am also constantly learning new things. I can also cook and clean and anything else that mum or dad need to make their life as easy possible!
