Heatherjane, foreign au pair in Troon KA10

After leaving school I spent three months as an au pair in Madrid (June 2012- September 2012). I was in sole charge of two young children while both parents worked. My daily tasks were:

-get the children up and ready for school and escort them there
-during the day I did household chores, grocery shopping and laundry
-I then picked up the children from school and made them a snack
-help the children with homework and play games/activities with them
-bathe the children and help them into their pyjamas
-make the children dinner
-relax with the children and then put them to bed

On the weekends and holidays when there was no school, I organised outings and activities to do with the children in which I incorporated English learning

While working in Spain I had to communicate constantly in Spanish as the family did not speak English. This has allowed me to grow in confidence and independence as I had to travel there and back alone.
