I am a 44 year old mother living in Weymouth with my partner, 17 yr old son and dog. I home educated my son from 8yrs until he went to college at 16.
During those years, I spent a great deal of time with groups of home-educated children of all ages, helping to run groups at a centre in Chard, Somerset. My favourite there was running the sports sessions but with my own son, we loved to read together, make things/craft/costumes, play acting/puppets/dressing up and play with friends/go to outside events and groups.
Before becoming a home-educator, I worked as a teaching assistant in a primary school in Bristol and a secondary in Poole. I have a degree in English Literature.
I have just started running a weekly under 5s singalong session in Weymouth with an ex-nursery teacher friend.
Ideally, I would like to work part-time, but can be flexible for the right family. I find life is more fun with children in it (my boy is too old to play!), particularly when they are in an environment in which they feel comfortable and have an element of choice. I love to listen to and engage with childrens' particular enthusiasms and am good at encouragement and inspiration, playful silliness, and gentle quiet times too. I am firm with boundaries when necessary and would be very keen to have a very clear open communication with parents regarding their wishes and concerns for their family. I give great hugs when needed and love to sing. I love well-behaved pets, going for walks, plants (I am an ex-gardener), exploring new places and things. I am happy to work with all ages from babies upwards.
Occasional babysitting | $7.50 per hour |
I believe responsibility for the care of children to be very precious and dedicated work and so the pay should reflect that. However, I understand the great financial pressure of chilcare on parents who work and am happy to discuss hourly rates.
