During my Higher National Diploma, I completed 3 work experience placements. Two of which were at primary schools and one at a private school day nursery.
I have previously worked in a day nursery as a full time nursery nurse. I was a key worker for 10 children. This involved planning, observing and recording their development in relation to the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. On a day-to-day basis my duties included toileting, encouraging healthy eating, play activities and promoting good communication skills.
I have just finished working as a live-out nanny for a family with three children. I was with the family for four years and I only left as the youngest child started school, so I was no longer required. I was the sole-carer during my working day for the children. I prepared meals, drove the children to and from school, dressed them, bathed them and sometimes put them to bed if their parents were working later. During term time, I took the youngest to toddler/ play groups, library visits, parks, play-dates etc. During the school holidays, I took all three children on trips to the museum, cinema, adventure parks, walks, picnics and swimming. I helped and guided the children with literacy and numeracy activities as well as providing opportunities for creative development through artwork, imaginary play and physical activities.
