Hi, my name is Megan, but you and your children may call me Megg ? Please feel free to read through my portfolio and decide whether or not I will be the right person for you and your family.
*Note: I am now expecting a baby so may not be available for many more months before I take a break from childcare for a year to be with my newborn*
About me:
I am 25 nd an experienced, qualified youth worker/informal educator. I absolutely adore being around and having fun with children and young people and very much miss this part of being at work, which is why I have decided to start working as a casual nanny/childminder.
I have just resigned from my position as a youth work project coordinator of 3.5 years, due to recently being diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME), and as a result have found that working casually as and when required works much better for me.
I am married to my wonderful husband Chris and look after my 3 large rescue dogs, 5 rabbits & 2 guinea pigs at home.
My experience and qualifications:
- I am NVQ Level 3 youth work practise and first aid qualified.
- I have 3.5 years professional experience in youth work with 8 to 19 year olds. This employer would be happy to provide any reference you may want to see.
- I also have an extra 5 years non-professional experience with children aged 1 to 8 from volunteering in churches.
- I have previously been a mentor as part of my youth work job, so this is something I can also provide for your child if needed.
Things I enjoy doing with children:
- I am a happy, bubbly and enthusiastic person who just loves to get stuck in and have fun. I like cooking or baking, reading with or to children, teaching guitar and singing, getting messy with crafts and helping and supporting children in their learning and personal development.
- I especially love to encourage children in outdoor play and discovery, teaching them about nature, animal care and how to have fun without the modern technologies that many are now reliant on.
Extra perks of choosing me:
- I am completely professional, respectful and non-judgmental when coming into your home. If you require me to do some ironing, cooking, hoovering etc, I will be more than happy to assist but will not assume you want me to do this unless requested. All I ask in return is that you show me where everything is and how you want things done so that this will be as helpful to you as possible.
- I am happy to be flexible with you as much as needed, as I understand first hand that life is sometimes unpredictable and if you suddenly no longer require my help on short notice (within reason) or equally need my help last minute, I will try my best to accommodate.
- I am very much an animal person, so if you have a dog, cat, rabbit etc. I am more than happy to help you and your children with the care of these during my services or offer you a dog walking service separately. I am happy to show your children how to take care of your animals too so that they might gain some sense of responsibility and part to play within the home.
- I am a talented experienced singer and love to teach others how to reach their vocal potential or just enjoy using their gift. I also play guitar to a moderate level so can happily teach children basic guitar skills. These can be great confidence boosters for children and young people to find something they enjoy doing and identify with.
- I do have experience with children and young people with various additional needs and behavioural issues, though I do ask that you go through these with me in detail before I provide you with any services so that I fully understand your situation before helping.
- I can provide a mentoring service for your child if required. This may be because they are suffering from depression, low self-esteem or anxiety, they are worried about school or home life, or maybe they just need someone to talk to on a regular basis to offload. Many young people often keep emotions bottled up or hidden from parents and having a non-biased adult come listen to them can help a lot with emotional development and personal discovery.
Some things to note:
- I do not currently drive, so if required for school runs they must be within a reasonable walking distance to your house so that I can walk your children to/from school.
- Due to my health condition, I may not always be able to accept last minute requests and will otherwise require at least 24hrs notice for any of my services.
- I prefer to cover the Bedhampton, Havant and Langstone areas as these are easily accessible for me. However, if the childcare required is for a period longer than 4hrs, I am happy to travel further afield (Leigh Park, Purbrook, Emsworth, Hayling, Farlington etc.)
Thank you for taking time to read my profile, i look forward to meeting you and your children in the near future.
