I am currently a residential support for looked-after children, and also babysit occasionally for foster children (aged 5 months, 2, and 3).
I spent 15 months as a nanny for a family in Yorkshire (3 and 4 years) and several months caring for a newborn.
I have a degree in Linguistics, a Makaton certificate and a Diploma in Children's Studies.
During the summer of 2011, I worked at the Early Learning Association, an English-speaking school incorporating a daycare in Basel, Switzerland. It provides care and education for infants and children, three months to 11 years. I was employed to work with groups of up to 12 children, aged 17 months to 3 years, and 3-5 years depending on where I was needed. I also took groups of primary school children during their vacation club. I held ths position for three months: July-September.
Throughout my time at the University of York I participated in the York Students in Schools programme. This is a tutor scheme in various local schools, volunteering for 2 half days a week over a period of 2 and a half years. I helped with literacy, maths, science, P.E. etc. in primary schools on two 10 week placements. I also taught French at one secondary school sometimes taking pupils out of the class to work with them on specific points, and provided small group French classes at two primary schools.
During the summer of 2012 I went to India, teaching English to 50 3-8 year olds and travelling around India for 3 months.
