Presentation

Hi, my name is Ailsa, pronounced 'Elsa' (think Queen Elsa from Frozen!) I am a 24 year old. I have a clean driving license and I don't smoke or drink.

I have always had an interest in children and have been working with them since I was 18 years old. Since then I have just become more and more involved with children and the local community. I was encouraged to start my degree and also ran a local Rainbow unit.

I am creative and have several skills with arts and crafts, I love getting messy and creating anything and everything!

I have always had an interest in languages, especially Spanish, and am keen to incorporate this where possible.

I enjoy being outside either walking, or with animals. My partner is a farmer so am quite content mucking in and getting on with things. Between us we have a Springer Spaniel, Merlin, and a Collie, Maple, both 6 years old. We have recently started to design our own house on his parents farm.

I am a keen baker, and love to cook. I started my own cake making and decorating business, 'Merlin's Cakes' in 2010 and do this as a hobby.

I like to be organised and run to a schedule. I am keen to explore and find local events to attend, especially in the community. I am more than happy to do house chores, whatever is needed really!

My main drive is the importance of reading, in particular towards enhancing children's speech and their imagination.

I am Ofsted registered and also accepted on the Childcare Voucher Scheme. I have a valid St. John's ambulance first aid qualification.I worked as a Special needs teaching Assistant at Rowde C of E Academy School. Working specifically as a one-on-one support for a named deaf pupil.

I have 4 years experience of working with a wide range of children who have had speech impairments, hearing impairments, learning difficulties, behavioral difficulties, or understanding delays. My most recent employment has given me the opportunity to work with a child who was physically disabled and had severe medical conditions including eating disorders and pacemakers.

I have looked after a family with a 1 year old and a newborn, another family with5 year old twins and a 1 year old. Another family, 6 year old and 8 year old. I also worked in a nursery in both the baby area and the general toddler area.

I of course babysit for several families!

For 5 years now I have been a leader of Rainbow Units (part of the Girlguiding Organisation for girls aged 5 to 7 years). I have been in charge of several adults and children for example: 4 adults and 23 children. I have organise anything from activities, to fun days and trips to theme parks or other attractions, as well as being in charge of unit accounts.

My ideal ages for children to work with are from new born up to 7 years. Although having said this I am willing to work with children older, however please remember I am tailored to the younger ages! I am available Monday to Saturday.

On a Monday I run a Rainbow unit in Hawkesbury Upton, from 4:30 to 6:30pm.

I have experience of working 12 hour days, 7am to 7pm followed by 5 hours on a Saturday.I am currently studying towards a BA Honours Degree in Childhood and Youth Studies through the Open University. After completing my degree I plan to a masters degree in Business as I am keen to set up my own nursery.

My degree allows me to constantly learn more about children and their childhood, what affects them, and benefits them. The processes in which different children learn as well as the reasons as to why some children act the way they do. I am always learning something new. As I'm sure many of you know everyday is always different you never know what to expect and you have to learn to adapt to any scenario!

I have a Certificate in Early Years Practice, a first aid certificate. I also have a clean driving license and I also have a level 1 qualification in British Sign Language. I have a leadership qualification. I also have 9 GCSE's and 2 A levels.

I have training in using a Flocare Infinity pump.

I have a CRB check by Gloucestershire County Council and by girlguiding but am more than happy to get another.
