I have been working at Priors Court School for just over 3 years. During that time I have worked in a variety of different situations and have learnt a lot about children and young people and their different backgrounds. I have gained a vast amount of knowledge and skills that I feel would be beneficial towards your role, alongside holding an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care.
During my Health and Social Care course i completed three 3 week work placements, one was in a nursery, another was in a adult disability home and the last one was for a elderly day center. I enjoyed all of these work placements but I have to say my favorite was my placement at an Nursery which I also got really good feedback from.
During my time at Priors Court, I have taken every opportunity to undertake additional training in order to improve my practice and support the young people to the best of my ability. One example is the 3 day structured teaching course. This is a broad-based course providing theoretical and practical applications of structured teaching. This has also given me a greater understanding of seeing the world from a young persons perspective. It has also shown me the importance of diversity and safeguarding and keeping an open mind about the beliefs of other people.
One of the main roles of a Key Worker is to be regularly in contact with parents to keep them updated on the young persons achievements, progress and their behavior. Within my day to day role I must maintain regular communication with other professionals such as senior members of staff, house managers, therapy assistants, nurse and education staff alongside meeting the day to day needs of the children and young adults.
I have lots of up to date relevant training which i have gained at my time at Priors Court
