From 2009 I have worked in various early years settings, and, I have worked in a school nursery for 18 months. I have also taught the reception class when needed, so I have experience with working with and teaching children between the ages of 3 and 5 years of age. I have worked with other children in key stage one when on placements throughout my college training and also when involved in whole school activities. Examples of activities which I have completed with my previous three key children include making fresh orange squash, going on a bear hunt and also dressing up as pirates and princesses. Since starting my career in childcare the EYFS has changed and since then I have built up my knowledge of this by working in various settings and within different age ranges. I attended various team meetings and always inputted my opinions and ideas on matters. Every Wednesday, I stayed behind after school and liaise the children to look around the local farm in farm club and helped with food club, looking after one key child in a one to one situation with a group of other school students. Upon teaching a child which has Cerebral Palsy I have a years worth of experience behind me and capable of working with and have experience working with a child who is an SEN child and have experience sharing information and working alongside over colleagues in the school, the school SENCO and outside agencies. I planned weekly activities for the children including numeracy and literacy and carried out observations. I also planned separate planning for the child with cerebral palsy to help his fine and motor skills and also his intellectual and physical development. Once a week I taught the entire foundation unit art and on occasion, taught the Foundation 2 children when cover was needed following the set planning.
I qualified from college in 2011, and I have had experience in varied childcare establishments, with having to do six placements altogether, five were at early years settings, one where I had also had experience in working in a year one/year two class for the nursery was attached to the school. At these placements I worked with small groups of children, carried out small sessions with the children and assisted my placement supervisor. As a part of my placement I carried out observations for the settings, linking them to the EYFS scale sheet and making next steps for the children using the EYFS. I have had experience in making and collecting resources for new topics for the children, and have made and designed various displays to go around the settings. At the majority of these placements I was involved in planning meetings and worked well as a team member and asking for my input. Also at these team meetings, I took on constructive criticism and took this on board to improve my work ethic and also expanding my knowledge.
At previous jobs, I have worked with children who were on IEP’s to help with speech and language development and implementing behavioural plans which the setting set to help a child with behavioural problems. I have also completed children’s files to show where the children are at developmentally and connected observations to the EYFS curriculum. I have had experience also working with children who are behind in their development and discussing ways to help them improve this through discussions with my room senior and also at room meetings and staff meetings, this is also includes children who were on safeguarding registers and who were considered at risk; filling the correct forms where appropriate. Informing the manger who would then inform outside agencies when needed.
I studied childcare and education level 3 at north Lindsey College. I qualified with an NVQ level 3 diploma in childcare and education at grade B, and in my first year of college NVQ level certificate in childcare and education at grade C. during my time at college I did an enrichment course of creative craft making a fairy home corner kit achieving a level 3, a certificate in EYFS practice at level 3, a certificate in safeguarding children, working with others qualification at level 3 and my certificate in paediatric first aid. I am a polite, punctual individual that is excellent at timekeeping. I am an adaptable and committed responsible individual, who is self-motivated, organized and capable of working under pressure. I have a clear logical mind with practical approaches to problem solving with foresight and see things through to completion. I work on my own initiative and as a team player. I am able to maintain confidential information and open to new challenges and learning new things and also willing to attend courses and thrive to learn. I am able to drive to and from work having my own car, having a clean full driving license since January 5th 2012. I like a challenge and love to further my knowledge and career by going on different courses, and maybe in the future attend a university course.
