I have left college gaining 4 A levels at Farnborough Sixth Form. Although these are of great value I have always had a burning desire to work with children. Because of this I chose to do a nursery apprenticeship to get me to where I want to be. My future aspirations are to become a nanny or my own childcare provider.
I have 1 years childcare experience working full-time with children aged from 6 months to 4 years old. I also have experience with children up the to age of 8 due to helping bring up my brother and sister who are twins. I often babysit for them over the weekends. In order to gain as much experience as possible I’ve had private arrangements with different parents to look after their child on Fridays when my work setting is not open. The children have been ages from as young as 11 months. I have had the children in the day caring for them and taking them out places to explore. This has given me experience to work independently and out of the nursery putting all of my knowledge into practice. One child I have done continuously for the last 12 months.
While working at my job I have undergone a 12 hour pediatric first aid course which I completed with a certificate. I have also had 6 key children ranging from the age of 1 ½ to 3 years. All of which required different needs, some needing support with behaviour and speech. I’ve spent a lot of my free time at work doing cleaning duties, observations, planning and 1-1’s with parents to discuss development always relating back to my good understanding of the EYFS.
In terms of my own personality I am very diverse. I am very energetic and bubbly so am able to keep up with the little ones who like to be on their feet running around while I also have the ability to form bonds with those who are more quiet and need more direct attention. I’ve had compliments from my managers and assessor about my ability to adapt to all age ranges thinking outside of the box for play ideas and communication techniques, especially when dealing with behaviour. While at my job I created a real life activity of ‘where going on a bear hunt, spending my free time making props and scenarios for each part of the story, my assessor watched my activity complementing me saying it was the best she has ever seen. This is something i was very proud of and helped motivate me towards other ideas.
Due to finishing all my qualifications I want to start looking for my dream job where I'm also happy to take on teaching, cooking and cleaning duties.
