Currently I have completed Level 3 Child Care Learning and Development (CCLD) and I have gained an overall distinction grade. I have successfully completed 800 hours of professional practice within four different early years’ settings: primary, nursery, private nursery and special needs.
My desire to work within a childcare setting stems from my love of working with young children. Watching them develop and flourish under my supervision is what has made me certain that a career in childcare is the perfect match for my skills. In particular, I have enjoyed the theoretical side of the course where I have extended my existing knowledge of children and their development and can put these approaches into practice in my day-to-day interactions with the children.
I have much strength: foremost is my ability to communicate effectively which is essential when working with children in an early years setting both with the children themselves and other members of the nursery team. Patience is another vital quality when working with young children and, as a hardworking and motivated individual, I will persevere when faced with difficult situations in the workplace. In addition I have always completed all my course assignments to deadlines and understand that working within time constraints is a key part of childcare.
Having already completed Level 2 CCLD, I gained experience in two settings for this course - a nursery and a primary school and finished this course with a distinction star grade. My first placement for Level 2 was in a nursery. I enjoyed this placement as I grew in confidence I found I could talk more knowledgeably to the parents about their child’s progress. My second placement was in a primary school Reception class and this allowed me to come out of my comfort zone to further develop my knowledge.
This solid base of understanding meant the transition to Level 3 was smooth as I was able to transfer my learning and successes here, to my Level 3 course where I have expanded my knowledge by working in all four areas of childcare as mentioned above. In my first year of level 3 I have worked with a variety of age ranges from 0-8 years old, including the EYFS and the National Curriculum, which has allowed me to see first-hand how children develop. During these placements I have carried out regular observations of the children to ascertain if they have met their developmental milestones and plan for appropriate intervention. I have also been tasked to produce resources and plan and manage activities that will aid the development of the children under my care. Furthermore I have completed a five month placement at a special needs school which has been my particular favorite experience during the course and an area I would hope to specialize in during my career.
While studying I have gained many achievements: the pediatric first aid certificate, which means I am able to sign documents as I have a valid certificate; the Level 2 end of year class award for best achieving student; numerous placement awards for best outstanding student at level 3. In my leisure time I am completing an Islamic theology and jurisprudence degree course which has provided me with the opportunity to teach children and allowed me to further my interest in perusing a career in childcare.
Throughout the course I have thrived on learning new skills about children and their development. I am very passionate about working with children and using my professional knowledge in allowing and assisting the children to develop in the early years. I feel I would be an asset to any childcare institution and look forward to a long-lasting career in this field.
