I am a 35 year old mother of two. I got my first full time childcare job, caring for five month old twins, 17 years ago although I already had a few years part time experience under my belt by then! I have many years experience in various childcare settings with children from 0-11 years. My own children are now 10 and 12, growing up fast! I love working with children. I have always done so and don't see myself ever doing anything else.
I recently qualified as a primary teacher and have fresh in depth knowledge of the early years foundation stage curriculum. I learnt a lot about child development in this roleand was able to refine many skills including hyper organisation, professionalism and self discipline. The behaviour management of children has always been a natural strong point of my work.
Although I loved my job and the challenges it brought, I made the difficult decision to leave the profession and go back to my childcare roots. Although I still appreciate how important education is, I missed caring for children. I believe that love, family, life skills, care, social and emotional development are paramount. Sadly there is little room for these in education, and so childcare suits my career path better.
I enjoy caring for children, it isn't work for me! I love cooking with children and feel that life skills are important. I would hope to include day to day cooling and cleaning into our daily routine of activities that we do together. I believe that it is important to teach children about a healthy diet and to teach them how to cook healthy meals, as well as cakes and treats for special occasions. I love to do crafts and have a wealth of ideas from my previous work that I would love to complete with children. I believe in following children's natural interests to bring out the best in them and then to channel and refine activities to teach them things that are important as you go.
I am willing and able to help primary children with homework. I have seen the great positive impact of working in partnership with schools at home has and would be happy to play a part in that. I would be willing but perhaps less able to help secondary children with homework!
I would expect to do some day to cleaning, cleaning up after myself and the children in my care. I would not want to be responsible for all the cleaning in the house.
I have my own car and a full driving license. I am happy to use it to drive to and from work and to transport children during my working day if necessary.
I have been first aid trained but this is due for renewal.
An ideal situation would be part time work but I would consider full time. I would consider any variations of hours, but not evenings or weekends unless my own children can attend with me as and when necessary.
Partial / after-school care | $10.00 per hour |
I believe this to be a fair rate for someone of my level of experience and qualifications.
