Through studying Childcare and Education Level 3 at North Lindsey College, I’ve fostered a range of practical skills through placements which are linked to children aged 0-8 years; establishing my own professional standards; developing my own confidence with working with children; mastering skills of team work; creating lesson plans and observing children development; monitoring the provision available(for safety and enjoyment ) and working alongside practitioners to provide the best provision and activates for the children. Whilst in college, I have learned about specific legislation within the UK to protect, supervise and keep children safe; learnt different provision methods, standards, daily routines, factors and ideas which surround children and created my own “Frozen” story sack, which includes my own worksheets and activities (designed by myself).
During work placements, I’ve had the chance to experience and do many activities from planning a small activity, to a 6 week plan of work, supporting teacher-led activities in and outdoors. With all the planning I have done, I have provided and completed the activities with the children. My most favorite plan – which I carried out in a school foundation stage, was the 6 week geography lesson/ activities – patch’s travels. As I had a real chance to experience the work of a teacher – planning the lesson, providing the lesson and having the relevant resources to enhance children’s learning. (I as based the whole topic on my toy dog traveling the world)Whilst doing these activities, I had to design and make worksheets; collect relevant supplies needed in the activity to make it fun; make my own learning aids and create a work pack of all the work the children had produced from the 6 week plan. I also linked all the planning to the early years foundation stage development matters. Therefore , everything taught was beneficial to their learning and development. After conducting the activities, I reflected on them – my teaching and the children’s learning (observations and conclusions of the child’s work.)
