"Children are not things to be molded, but a person to be unfolded." (Jess Lair)
Hello family,
My name is Siobhan. I am 47 years old and have been a childminder for five years and a secondary school teacher for 21 years. I have two teenage boys (Ryan 16 and George 14). My extended family is large with many nephews, nieces and cousins ranging from age 3 weeks to 22.
As a childminder I cared for children aged four months to 12 years. The older children came for breakfast and after school club, using my mini bus for school runs. The younger children I completed early years accredited teaching with. This included all kinds of activities and trips and outings. We just tried to have as much fun as possible. However, this was bearing in mind all children need routines.
Childhood is such a short time period in our lives, I believe it should be magical and exciting time. It is also a time for coaching and mentoring in small ways to create a person who is confident and happy to take on the responsibilities of life and the world in later life.
For many years I have been an English teacher in secondary schools. I have excellent behaviour management skills as well as creativity and flexibility. However, the most important thing any of us can give a child is unconditional love. Without this they cannot thrive. Children are individuals and I like to take the time to know what makes each one tick. I have always loved working with children of all ages.
I love cooking and baking, especially with children. I am musical and love drama. I keep fit running and have completed some 10k marathons including a tough mudder.
As a teacher I have worked at senior leadership level as an assistant deputy head and leading an English team as Head of Department. Therefore, I am highly organised, a team player
Who works just as well on own initiative, flexible (as you never know what's around the corner with children!), caring and helpful. I work on the basis that if I wouldn't want something for my children, then I wouldn't want it for anyone else's, and vis-versa.
As a mother myself, I see this role as a support to you as parents. I know I'd want someone who would do things as I as a parent would. Someone who would assist in the running of the home too so that when you do have time with the children it's quality time where you are not worrying about thing that need cleaning or washing etc.
I hope I am the kind of person you are looking for and would look forward to meeting you and your family.
