I have worked as a mid day supervisor at a local primary school for over a year. Rainy day lunch times were full of activities such as drawing, colouring, reading, role play (based around home making, careers eg farmer, builder to superheroes), constructive play (building blocks, Lego), jigsaws.
Outdoor play was managed by giving ideas for games (mainly from my childhood), ensuring fairness was kept.
I enjoyed working with the little ones, watching them grow and develop their own characters and personalities and, hopefully, a caring nature towards others, the ability to solve problems by looking at issues from all sides.
Being a parent myself, I know how demanding of your time children can be. Trying to fit in after school activities, doctors appointments, clubs and working yourself, sometimes it seems there are not enough hours in the day! I was lucky in having the help of both sets of grandparents whilst my children were at primary school, some people do not have this luxury.
My son was diagnosed as boarder line autistic at primary school, while this mainly affects his fine motor skills (drawing and writing), he displays signs of needing a consistent routine in his life.
I also have 5 nephews and a niece who were born while I was young, between the ages of 6 to 14, so I have looked after these over the years too.
