Hi, I'm corie-lea and I have been a professional nanny for coming up to two years.
I have just arrived back in the UK after having the absolute pleasure of moving to the United States for 6 months as an aupair for two lovely children (9 and 10) My role consisted of caring for the children in every aspect: school pick ups and drop offs, completing home work with them and test prepping, driving them to and from activities, cooking all their meals, doing thier laundry, keeping them entertained and busy in the holidays, arranging and holding play dates, attending parents evenings and club meetings, bath and bed times and overnight care.
This was an absolutely wonderful experience as I hadn't lived in as a nanny before. You have such an impact on the children's lives as even when off duty, you have the privilege of spending time with them which creates such a special friendship. The children respected me as their carer but also saw me as a friend they could confide in.
Before this I worked as a live out nanny/housekeeper caring for a little girl (4) and for part of this time I also cared for two more children (3 and 4) in the same household. This role allowed me to be very creative and imaginative with the activities I planned. Each day was an adventure and I would try to incoperate learning through play. This was a very fun role as with young children, no day is the same.
Prior to this role I was a mothers help caring for two lovely little girls (18 months and 5 years) Apart from caring for family members, this was my first professional role. I found it very helpful to have a mothers input and guidance and I feel I learnt a lot in this position. I would help in the mornings getting the children up and ready for school/playgroup. I would then return in the afternoon for school pick up, dinner and playtime followed by bath and bedtime. The role wasn't particularly hard but it allowed me to feel confident in my abilities to care for more than one child.
While working as a nanny I would also temp at many local nurseries in Crawley and Horsham, caring for children from 3 months to 5 years. This was always a great experience as within a nursery there are a lot more opportunities to learn about the educational aspects of childcare. You focus more on the milestones children are aiming for and how games and activities can encourage them to reach these milestones. It's here I also gained more experience with babies as I was part of a team caring that would care for up to 10 babies. This was such a lovely experience as from 3 months to 16 months, there are so many changes and milestones babies achieve and it is such a privilege to watch them grow and learn and knowing that you had a part to play in their development is beyond rewarding.
I am passionate about caring for children and it is a job I wake up every morning excited to do. I feel I have so much to give and I am flexible in working with many different ages. My creativeness and organisation ensures that each day is exciting and my caring and nurturing nature allows children to feel happy and comfortable in my company.
I am CRB checked and first aid trained for babies and children.
