About Me:
2 years ago I made the sizeable decision cut down my teaching hours and become a Nanny/Home-help. Although I encountered many raised eyebrows in response to my career change, I can sincerely say it's one of the best decisions I have ever made and have been extremely happy and fulfilled in my work.
I'm a Rada trained actress and qualified English Language and Theatre Arts tutor of children (from 3 years) through to adulthood. Although creative and fun-loving by nature - I'm also a mature, responsible, committed, trustworthy, dependable and organised individual who after living and working for 20 years in Central London, 5 years ago, moved back to my beautiful home county of Shropshire to be closer to my immediate family.
I enjoy being outdoors in all weathers. I'm just as at home in muddy wellies as I am dressed up for a 'do'. I grew up on a smallholding at the foot of the Longmynd (aged 4 - 16 years), so I've always felt a great empathy for animals.
I'm certainly not work-shy, I need to be busy and occupied at all times during my working day, in order to feel fulfilled.
Finally, born in London I'm a British Citizen with a valid passport. I hold a full, clean UK drivers licence, own my own car, am a vigilant and safe driver and have never been involved in a motoring accident or received any driving infractions.
My Experience:
For the last 2 years I have worked for 2 families in live out, part-time positions. I have cared for 5 children in all, ranging in age from 8 months to 15 years. I left my most recent position because of a combination of my hours reducing considerably due to the youngest child attending nursery and also my relocation from Ludlow to Shrewsbury.
I have a passion for teaching, but have also always found caring for infants and young children inexpressibly rewarding.
I regularly cared for my nephew (now 5 years) and 3 Godchildren (now 6, 10 and 12 years) from birth.
Whilst taking some time-out, from my then stressful job, I spent a year (2009) as a live-in Nanny/Housekeeper, in the sole care of the children (daughter, 2 years and son, 10 weeks). I thrived within those circumstances, and through the success of this job, was inundated with requests from other parents in the community, for child minding, babysitting and after school care (newborns through to 8 years). I also helped to run 2 pre-school playgroups per week - planning and supervising a myriad of craft activities, singing and games. In retrospect, I can honestly say it was one of the happiest years of my adult life.
Infants I find quite extraordinary and magical (aside from the obvious beauty of a baby) and young children from the age of 18 months upwards never fail to astound me with their insatiable appetite for learning, laughing, creative play, mimicry and curiosity. I've discovered that to witness and be some part of the development of a young child over a period of time is a privilege, brings enormous rewards and is something to be valued greatly.
My Availablity:
Ideally, I'm looking for a, live-out, Nanny/Home-help position, within reasonably close proximity to the town centre of Shrewsbury. I would prefer a minimum of 25 hours per week.
I'm not terribly interested in short-term temporary contracts. However, I'm very happy to take on a trial period at a fixed term, with a view to possible extension over a longer period. I enjoy blending in and becoming 'part of an extended family' within my childcare positions and am very happy to write that this has always been my experience to date.
