Within my most recent post before relocating to Hertforshire due to family commitments, I was employed as an admin assistant and a nanny. I worked in a busy psychology office where I was expected to answer and respond to phone calls, take payments and type up assessment audio as well as other general admin tasks such as scanning and filing documents and bundles as well as face to face dealing with clients. In the afternoons, I was employed as a nanny for the director of the psychology office, and I took care of two children as well as some other admin takes such as taking care of their buy to let properties.
Prior to this, I was employed as a Nanny in London and worked here for three years, starting when the children were 7 months old and 5 years until the little one went to school . As a Nanny I was responsible for the daily care of two children.
Before this I was a Co-Room manager in a private day nursery, Here I worked within this establishment for a total of 4 years, the first two of which coincided with my studies for my Bachelors Degree.
Due to the completion of my BA Hons Degree in Early Childhood Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University, I have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the services available to young children and their families, as well as the importance providing families’ with support and advice. During in my final year I completed a social work topic. Within this topic we were taught about the importance of multi agency working and even had to role play multi agency meetings as part of our final mark for the unit.
Working as a Co-room manager allowed me to develop my organisation skills as I had to lead a team in my room. Being Co-room manager also meant that on a daily basis I made important decisions and used my initiative throughout the day. It was also my job to respond to issues surrounding any complaints and disagreements between staff. Both of which I did in accordance with policies and respect to families and staff.
Confidentiality within children’s services is vital for gaining trust and respecting families. I have always maintained high levels of confidentiality throughout my career in childcare,
Furthermore, through working as a Co-Room Manager within the nursery setting, I understand the importance of early childhood education and the services that are provided. Working as a nanny has allowed me to become familiar with the role of the health visitor, and other professionals that parents will come into contact with. What is more, we had monthly staff meetings at the nursery with all the staff whom worked within the unit.
I am proficient in the use of Microsoft software, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel. I have had to use these packages throughout my degree for assignments, reports and presentations, as well as using them within the nursery to complete planning and observations.
I have excellent communication skills, which were imperative within my former role as a Co-Room Manager. Within this role, I had to communicate important information regarding the children to all parents on a daily basis. On top of this we would provide parents with a quarterly parents evening where we would discuss the children’s development and next steps. It also provided an opportunity to discuss any issues that the child may be having. I also had to communicate well with my colleagues to ensure smooth running of the unit and for planning the room activities and topics. In addition, it was essential to be able to communicate effectively with the other staff within the nursery. This is also an important part of my current role as a nanny, since it is essential that I am able to deliver information about the children to their parents on a daily basis.
In the summer of 2015, I taught English in Thailand, putting my skills of communication, teamwork and listening to good use. This work was great experience of working with children and professionals from different cultures and backgrounds. Working within a team of three, we have to produce daily lesson plans for the four different classes that we were teaching.
