Lani, nanny - WR14 Great malvern

My name is Lani , I am a 19 year old young woman living with my partner in Malvern.

I have a younger sister who is currently 12 years old. I have been babysitting her for as long as I can remember. I used to cook her meals, clean her clothes, help her with any homework or school tasks and most importantly act as a good role model and find interesting and entertaining activities to do around the home. I have a great love for Disney films so I am used to watching a lot of children's TV and helping children to interact with it.

During my years at College I realised I would like to pursue my career as a Primary School teacher. I began helping out and assisting at primary schools. My first experience was at a school in York where I listened to a year 3 class, one by one, reading to me in the library. I showed great enthusiasm in what they were reading and asked some questions like who is your favourite character? etc. I helped in any way I could if they were struggling with the words and helped with phonics. I did this for 6 months.

I then assissted at a second primary school in York (Our Lady Queen Of Matyrs) and I was a teaching assisstant for a year 6 class (with occasional changes to a year 2 class). I helped children stay on task and helped make their fun projects they were given entertaining. I worked with a group of 3 individuals independently who had SEN (special educational needs) and helped them understand the aim of the lesson. My behavioral control with children, I have been told, is exceptional. Achieving a Psychology A-level I understand a little about children's way of learning and understanding. I always sensitively approach unacceptable behavior without negative responses such as shouting, and quietly talk to the child as to why this behavior is antisocial and talk about their feelings, getting to the root of the problem. Children feel as if they can talk to me and look up to me.

I then attended Worcester University for 6 months studying as a Primary School teacher. I unfortunately had to leave due to personal reasons however I had lots of experience. I was on a placement for 2 weeks where I was working full time with a class. I was mainly working with a year 1 class with occasional swaps to nursery and year 2. In the nursery class I was required to help the children play and enjoy a range of activities, helping them along the way and bringing into some activities an element of education. For example, we occasionally played "Treasure Hunt" which required myself to call out a shape, "Triangle", the children would then search the room for any triangular shapes and at the end we would discuss what they found and how we knew it was a triangle.

I have also been a dinner lady at St James Primary School in Malvern. I did this for 6 months. I made sure I offered children a range of salad to eat with their meals or in some occasions fruit. I did not pressure them however if they felt uncomfortable.
