My name is Gemma and I am currently in year 11, at Oasis Academy Oldham.
My strongest subjects are English and Drama; Drama is also my favourite and I thoroughly enjoy Mathematics because I like working with numbers, having a definite answer and I like how everything in Maths links together – even with other subjects.
I became House Captain and School Councillor in Year 10 and then became the Head Girl in Year 11. I think this is because I’m a reliable, responsible, trust-worthy student that listens attentively and is confident and resilient. I’m also quite competitive and I enjoy working productively in a team or independently. I enjoy being Head Girl as I love to help others and be a good role model to my peers. As part of being a good role model, I decided to participate in Academic Mentoring and Reading Mentoring. I do this to help the younger students in their lessons and with important life skills. This means I have enough experience to help with children from around the age of 6 to 15.
During Year 9 I was part of HumanUtopia and Girls Out Loud (GOL). GOL helped me become the person I am by building my self-esteem and my confidence. HumanUtopia taught us how to respect everyone and acknowledge bullying so we can do something about it.
In 2013, I did a work experience placement in a Secondary School. Whilst there, my position required me to work alongside the English department; to create educational displays, run errands, give messages, assist teachers in lessons and organise work and the store cupboard deliveries. I enjoyed doing this as it provided me with experience that can help me in the career I want.
In the future, I am certain that I want to be a teacher in secondary education as I love to work with peers to expand their knowledge and help them develop into an independent, young adult. This would also benefit your children as I would be willing to help them with their homework and even a little tuition if you would like.
I have 4 younger siblings I care for (3-11 years old), 2 neices and a nephew (1-6 years old). For younger children, I would be willing to meet them beforehand so they can adjust to a new face.
