I am a second year music education student at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, looking for a summer job where I can reflect on my people skills and build relationships with youngster.
Assertiveness and Positive Attitude
• In March this year, I found myself having to perform CPR on a middle aged male who had passed out on the street and was not breathing. During this situation, not only was I able to maintain calm and control of myself, but I was also able to find help and reassure those who assisted me until the medics arrived. Having the skill and the assertiveness to use this under pressure was a life changing experience, and knowing that the man survived due to the chest compressions is truly humbling.
Approachable & Empathy
• During the summer (2015) I was a Duty Instructor at Loch Eil Outward Bounds Trust. My duties involved managing and taking care of all student in the camp during the evenings, throughout the night and during the morning. Many of the students were sent by their schools with particular goals and obstacles to overcome- with a “skills for life” award, as their incentive. Throughout their stay many pupils were able to approach me, and share with me some of their own personal challenges. There were a number of times where students were close to giving up and going home, and through talking to these pupils and actually doing some of the hikes and climbs with them I was able to keep them motivated and support them.
Professionalism & Team-player
• I have experience working in both primary and secondary school, teaching music. Having been on placement for the past 12 weeks at Bearsden Academy I have been able to build upon my professionalism whilst having the opportunity to assist the music staff in a number of small and large school productions, all of which were hugely inspiring and successful events.
