Deirdre, professional childminder - BT47 New buildings

Over the past three years I have been working as a Childminding Assistant (Category 2). This has allowed me to support the effective learning of eight children aged from three months to seven years in my home and local community.
I had the opportunity to work in a nursery class of three and four year olds. On a gap year from my studies I continued to volunteer in the class. From my three years of experience within the placement setting, and through my own enthusiasm, energy and initiative, I was able to develop professional relationships and communication with parents, staff and children.
I also babysit. I have been babysitting for one particular family for five years. The three children are very fond of me and their parents trust that I am responsible and capable to look after them. I also babysit for a number of other families.
Furthermore, I am a piano teacher, having attained Grade 7 in a practical exam. This took years of commitment, determination and hard-work and I am proud to put my skills to use. I believe by having a friendly and polite manner I create a positive experience. Teaching allows me to display leadership and management, as well as organisation and planning of what I am going to do with each child. I am confident the parents trust me to keep control of their child, particularly the younger pupils. These skills come very naturally to me and I believe I am diligent in performing all of my roles.
